Timmermans is the Man

A good friend of mine, Alex Timmermans, spends most of his days as a development engineer for Player's Forsythe Racing, a Champcar race team based out of Indianapolis. However, he has been tapped to head up a special one-race team for the Indy 500 with ex-F1 driver Johnny Herbert at the wheel. Congrats, Al!

Entertainment Industry: Wake Up

Famous CTO and ex-Netscape founder Marc Andreessen made the definitive market-based argument to why the entertainment industry has it's head up it's ass on the subject of copy-protection:

"If a computer can see it, display it and play it -- it can copy it...Digital media is the biggest opportunity the entertainment industry has ever seen...People are standing up in the tens of millions. They love MP3s, they love digital video, they love streaming. This is the kind of thing -- at the beginning of an industry -- you don't usually get."

Authors and Amazon.com: The Honeymoon is Over

It appears that every small author's best friend, Amazon.com, has quickly become a source of agony due to the online giant's increasing sales of used books which of course pay no royalties to the authors. I have sympathy for struggling writers who see their meager profits dwindling because of this, but quite frankly it's something they should have expected. It's like buying an SUV and then complaining about the high gas prices. Technology knows no fairness.
