Unification Without String Theory

Physics buffs might like this article on loop quantum gravity. Or, more accurately, an article about one of its proponents, Fotini Markopoulou Kalamara. LQG seems to have many advantages over the various flavors of string theory, not the least of which being that it is not totally insane. Pure math geeks (you know who you are) will probably resonate with the notion that details like space, matter, and energy are just a natural consequence of this theory. The notion of complexity arising from very simple rules is attractive to physicists and mathematicians alike.
