I had to do a double take when I read the intro paragraph to a recent Times article on affirmative action legislation:
With Michigan’s new ban on affirmative action going into effect, and similar ballot initiatives looming in other states, many public universities are scrambling to find race-blind ways to attract more blacks and Hispanics.
Um, isn't the point of the new law to stop using race as a criteria for admissions? I'm saying I agree with the practice, but it makes it sound like universities are trying to ignore the law. Better to fight the legislation, I would think.
