What's Killing You--and Not

Fear check: fatal airline crashes are down 65 percent over the last 10 years. But don't get complacent; deaths from deadly bacteria are on the rise, and the numbers are startling:

If the mortality estimates are correct, the number of deaths associated with the germ, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, would exceed those attributed to H.I.V.-AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, emphysema or homicide each year.

Read that again. The stats are that about one in 4 people that contract a drug-resistant Staph infection will die.

Only one in 4.5 million airline departures result in a fatality.

Phone Jamming

Part of me fears that personal phone jammers will become widespread soon despite being illegal. The other part of me wants one.

Automotive Roundup

Some random stuff on the subject of driving. First, the cannonball run record was beaten by over an hour with a mixture of technology and planning that has compensated for increased traffic and construction on the US interstates.

A friend sent me a page with all the traffic cameras in the local area. Real-time feeds! Cool, and scary at the same time.

I'm buying a trailer to use with my race car, and there's quite a lot to learn on the subject of trailer physics. A weight-distributing hitch is a really cool thing to have, especially if it incorporates anti-sway technology.

My friend Mark has entered the used car business! He gets amazing deals at auction and passes the savings on. Check out the eMotors website.
