Prions Recreated in Lab

For the first time, scientists seem to have shown that misfolded proteins, or 'prions' can cause infectious diseases. The controversial theory of prions was made front-page news by bovine sponigform encephelopathy which researchers believe leads directly to the human form of the disease popularly called Mad Cow. This research is extremely important in focusing efforts on understanding how proteins can actually cause systemic failures in the human nervous system.
